Learning Reflection

I've already finish to this course "English Reading Strategies" 
First of all, I want to say thank you to Dr.Usa Noytim who is the instructor in this course and be patient to us because we talked a lot and did't pay attention to her.
But I have a lot of knowledge, many information that I didn't know before and I've learned reading strategies as scanning, skimming, finding references, predicting and guessing words meaning.
I thought skimming and scanning was an easy way to find the key word and find the answer.
This course helps me to improve my reading that I can read faster and know how to find the key word.
It was a bit boring sometimes, but it was fun though because the instructor will explain everything that we didn't know and make the class happy.
I will use reading strategies that I've learn to improve my English reading and teach other people who want to learn how to read English.
Thank you for everything that you've taught and gave good things for us. 

Week 14 Classic Ann Landers

It was the last lesson that I've learn this semester. It was about the problem that many people sent to Ann Landers to help they solve the problem. We had to read the problem in each passage and then read the answer that Ann Landers gave to them. After that we answered the questions. I thought it was fun because we were not only read but also thought about how to help they solved the problem and discussed with friends. I used predicting, scanning, and skimming to read this lesson. Some words in this lesson was difficult but not much. I used dictionary online to find the meaning but actually I rarely use it. And the last thing to do was to read the passage and give a suggestion to the sender. 

Week 13 Paragraph Reading Strategies "Books and Novels"

We started with the question in the exercise that the instructor let us did before reading. This time the passage has a lot of letters and it was small to read so we had to read faster and find the key word in each question. After we finished the exercise, the instructor lead us answer the question about the books Diana: Her True Story, Aspects of Britain and the USA, Aung San Suu Kyi: The Voice of hope, and A Life for God : The Mother Teresa. And I've read the novels You Belong to Me, The Lost World, and Message in a Bottle. I liked novel the Lost World the most. It was very interesting and attracted me to read it. We read many short descriptions and every books and novels that we read had the interesting story. I used scanning and skimming in this class, because there was a lot of passage to read and had to find the answer quickly. The difficult things that I found was many letters and passages. And it was more difficult vocabulary. But I found that find the answer was easy because we only had to find the key word in each question. And the last one we read Secret of the Christmas Box. The story was sad for me.

Week 12 Read Faster

This course I learned about how to read faster. At first, the instructor described about how to read and asked the question that what statement do we agree with? and after that she let us do activities, We had to read the passage as fast as I can and then I had to check the time that I used for reading. It was fun to read faster with the time, but I think it a little bit boring, because we only read and found the answer. In this class I thought there was not much exercise. It has only one page. I thought this unit was quite difficult for me, because of the difficult words that at first I didn't use the dictionary so I don't know the meaning almost all of the passage. But when I've already read I search for the meaning of each vocabulary that I didn't know. Today I used scanning and skimming to read the passage and I thought it was an easy way to read faster. When I got home I had to read the passage again and found that it was useful for me to practice faster reading.

Week 11 Extensive reading

We started with pre-reading that the instructor asked us the question that what kind of reading do we read? For me, I usually read on the internet and books. And I discussed with my friend that I thought that reading alone was developing my reading skill, writing skill,vocabulary and grammar were very useful and speaking skills and listening skills were somewhat useful.
We read about the research of extensive reading and summarized in which paragraph. The words in this passage was very difficult. I had to used guessing word meaning and after that I used dictionary online to find the answer. When finished class I had to read the passage again in my home. I tried to make more understand the passage and practiced how to summarize.

Week 10 Scanning

I studied what is scanning and how to scan and then the instructor let me sit in a group. We help each other to answer the question in the exercises. This class we only used scanning and it was a little bit boring. But I thought it was easy to find the answer, because we just looked for the key word. But it had difficult words and a lot of texts so we had to scanned carefully. I've practiced scanning skill in this class and I hope it will helpful to me in the future.

Week 9 West meets East [Continue]

We continued studied from last week about Expat in Asia. I used guessing word meaning and predicting to read this topic, because I didn't know the meaning every words. When the teacher finished explain, I used dictionary online to find the meaning of the word that I didn't know. It was quite difficult to me. After that we did the exercise until finished this class. For me, I hope I can improve my reading skill every week and I hope I can do that.

Week 8 West meets East

After finished the midterm test, we started to studied new unit about West meets East. This topic was very hard for me. I knew the vocabulary just a little bit. I had to use the dictionary online all the time. I used scanning and skimming to read the passage. The unit was started just one page. And will study again next week. I hope I will prepare for next time.

Week 7 Fashion

I had a homework to send her this class. The instructor commanded us to find the picture about fashion and then discussed in group with friends. She gave the work sheet and I had to find the answer in each exercises. I used skimming and scanning to read the passage and find the word that I didn't know. I did the exercise and I used essential skill to solve the anagrams about hair. It was fun to me and the vocabulary was easy for me because I've heard about fashion every day. Everyone around me knew about all the fashion. But it's difficult for me to understand about the US and Japanese fashion. I had to search the internet to find more information. I hope this class will help me to understand more about fashion.

Week 6 Researchers worry as teens grow up online.

I've learned about teenager with computer online. I used skimming and scanning to read this topic. The instructor told me to write the summary in each paragraph. I wrote the answer that I thought I wrote it correctly but the sentence was wrong. LOL :D But it's okay for me because she told me and wrote the correct. The vocabulary in this topic was so difficult to me. I had to pay attention to her and also find the meaning in dictionary online. When I came home I had to read the passage again to try to understand it.

1.How much time spent online do you think is too much? Why?
- I think spent time online more than 4 or 5 hours is too much, because it can waste the time to do anything else and it can make trouble to the eyes and health.

2. Do you think that everything can be communicated by e-mail? Or are some things best said face to face? What example do you give?
- I think everything can't communicate by e-mail. Sometimes we have to say face to face such as about the work or project that we have to discuss and exchange our opinion.
3. Would it bother you if people lied to you online about their age or appearance? Why or why not?
- It would bother me, because I don't want whoever lie to me. It's not be honest.

Week 5 Today's technology.

The instructor started the topic by giving me find the information that " What technologies can you use to learn English? How? " So my friend and I did it and discussed about this. It was very interesting that each other have their own idea about that. For me I watched movies and video about English so I can learn English from it. I learned about Today's technology vocabularies such as
laptop, lecture, review, concentrate, podcast, earphones, download and library.
I didn't know about podcast, so I have to search the internet to find the meaning and what is it. I read the passage about podcast so I know more information about it. When I read the passage I used reading strategy skimming, scanning, and predicting to find the information and answered the question. And then I learned essential skill with reading the topic " musicnews&views " It was fun.
The vocabulary in this topic is very easy for me except podcast that I had no idea what it is. So I have to use the internet.
I hope this time I will know more information about nowadays.

Week 4 Natural disaster [Continue]

The instructor made up class on Sunday so I had to study on Sunday 3 p.m. We talked and learned continue about natural disaster. I had to read two topic and summarized the story. I had to find the answer and checked it with my friends. I also studied about news vocabulary in this class. I knew more vocabularies that I ever knew.

When I read the story, it was easy to find the answer because I used scanning reading for details so I just found the keyword of each questions. I sat in group 4 people and discussed about the natural disaster news that the instructor let we find and summarized in homework. My natural disaster news was about House-Sized Boulder Blocks Highway in Zion National Park. It was very interesting.

I found that it was easy to read news. We just had to scanning the detail and found the answer, but it was difficult when I didn't know some vocabulary. I had to use the dictionary to find the meaning. I use scanning and guessing some word that I didn't know before I used dictionary.

So I hope I will know more vocabulary and know more news in these day. I hope it will help me to read more news in every day.

Week 3 Natural disaster

In week 3 we didn't have a class because of the activities of 3 English major, Sport day. 
In week 4 I learned about natural disaster. I watched tsunami video and have to summary what I've watch and have to describe in group. And then I have to present to the class. I learned what was natural disaster such as death toll, fatality, landslide, mudslide, wildfire, typhoon, etc. I read news stories about 
- Myanmar flooding affects one million. 
- Typhoon Soudelor hits China with deaths floods and Mudslides.
- Landslide Kill 9 in Doti and Gulmi districts of Nepal.

And after that I answer the question in topics. I use skimming, scanning and guessing in reading.

Some vocabulary was difficult so I had to use dictionary to know the meaning. But this week was interesting because I like to know about natural disaster and want to know what happened in this world. I hope I would know more information about natural disaster and remember the vocabulary that I've learned.

Week 2 A Healthy Diet [continue]

I learned about healthy and unhealthy food. I had a homework that the instructor told me to take a picture with 10 photos of food and discussed with friends and gave the reason why it's healthy or unhealthy. And I had create a schedule "Weekly healthy diet planner" with my friends. We discussed about healthy food together and presented in front of the class. And I also learned about predicting, activating, skimming, and scanning to read the passage and find the main idea of "Westerns turn to a Japanese diet" I also learned about new vocabularies that I didn't know. It was very fun and interesting. <3

          I love to find the answer from the passage. It was interesting and easy to find the answer by using skimming and scanning in reading.

         I thought that some words is difficult because I didn't know the meaning so I had to listen to the instructor and use the dictionary online to find the words that I didn't know.And I used skimming, scanning, predicting, and activating in reading the text. It was an easy way to find the answer and main idea of the passage that I learned. I hope I will improve reading skill from this class English Reading Strategies.

Week 1 A Healthy Diet

It was a first time to studied English Reading Strategies. I was very nervous and excited.
Before the class start, The instructor told me about classroom rules that I should to do;
1.Be punctual.
2.Pay attention to the lesson.
3.Do not use cell phones in the classroom.
4.Do not cheat.
5.Follow dress code policy.
6.Listen while others are speaking or sharing.

And then I learned about what strategies should I use in reading, such as previewing, scanning, skimming, making inferences, finding references or guessing the words meaning from contexts.
I also learned about "A Healthy Diet" and the topic " No more junk food " It's about how the government in England deal with junk food in their country.

I think the topic was easy and interesting to learn. It's all about our daily life. But some words that I read I didn't know the meaning, so I had to search the meaning by using dictionary online to find the word I didn't know.

I used previewing and scanning in reading the text, because it was an easy way to understand the main idea of the story. And I hoped that this subject could be a way to improve my reading skill and helped me to understand the writing.
