Learning Reflection

First of all, I want to say thank you to Dr.Usa Noytim who is the instructor in this course and be patient to us because we talked a lot and did't pay attention to her.

But I had a lot of knowledge, many information that I didn't know before and I've learned about discourse marker that it was use in different way of each genre of the texts.

After finishing study in this subject, I had to tell that it was worth to study and I can use everything that I had learned to improve my reading skill and it had many knowledge that the teacher thought me in each week that made me knew more than I ever knew.

This course helped me to improve my reading that I can read faster and know how to find the key word in each texts that I read.

It was a bit boring sometimes, but it was fun though because the teacher will explain everything that we didn't know and make the class happily.

I will use discourse marker that I've learn to improve my English reading and teach other people who want to learn how to read English easily.

Even though sometimes it was difficult to understand but everything went well because the teacher will always explain everything and she's really nice even sometimes we all didn't pay attention, sometimes make a loud noise, but she still taught us with her kindness and love.

Thank you for everything that you've taught and gave good things for us.

First, the teacher checked the homework that she assigned us to do last week. We discussed and answered the question until we finished. 

Finally, it was the time to present our cooking video, group by group, and everyone did it very well and I was very fun with my friend video, Sittichai, He's very funny and also his video too. I thought I couldn't eat his food because it was really weird menu.

And my group presented about how to cook " Papaya salad or called Somtam." I was very nervous because I didn't know what was it like. But everything passed well.

And also other groups did it well and fun too, and this final class was very happy.

It was the new lesson that we were going to learn was about " Problem and Solution. The text in this lesson about what the problem affect to something or someone and how to solve it.

In the text, we learned about teen pregnancies and how to solve the problem were birth control and abstinence. It was the example of this lesson that show us about the discourse marker in the text.

  

According to the lesson, there are many words that use in the texts. Such as ....

- to answer

- to solve

- to deal with

- to improve

Etc.

We practiced the reading from finding discourse marker in the texts that let us know the genre of the texts and made it easily to the reading and understanding.

We did the exercises and then, checked the answer and discussed with friends. We tried to answer to the teacher about title and main idea of the texts and write the diagram.

It was very difficult for me to find the main idea and the title because I didn't know what was the best for using. So I had to reviewed at home and also it had a homework to do for this lesson.

After the teacher gave the homework about this lesson. Then, it was time to have a quiz. For me, it was difficult, it's always difficult like it was every time. But I thought everything would pass well.

Week 12 : Exemplification

This day was very hot again. The air conditioning didn't work even though it passed for a week. I feel really bored at the weather in the room and it made me couldn't pay attention to the lesson.

This lesson we learned about "Exemplification". It was the new lesson next to "Definition and Classification".

We learned this lesson from the passage in the hand out that the teacher gave. First of all, we had to read the passage and under line the discourse marker. after that, the teacher explained about it. The teacher taught us to find the exemplification in the passage and then wrote it down on the diagram in the hand out. It mad us know and understand more about the exemplification. We had to read three texts and do the exercises in each texts. It was very long time to finish in each exercises.


After finishing the exercises, two groups of the class had to present their cooking video. For me, they did it interesting and fun and everyone in the class liked it.


Even though, the air conditioning didn't work but I enjoyed this day and when I came back home, I reviewed the lesson for understanding more than studying in the class.

Week 11 : Definition & Classification

On this day, I had to told you that it was very hot day. I was hurry to come to the class in time but when I arrived the class, the air conditioning didn't work and it mad me feel edgy. I had to study without any coldness. 
                It was a bad day. :(

When the teacher came to the class, we learned about "Definition and Classification". First, she explained about this lesson that we had to learn about the text that describe the meaning and classifying of something.

After that, we had to do exercises with ourselves and when we fished, we checked the answer with friends and discuss about the answer. Then, some of my friends had to wrote the answer on the white board and the teacher told them what the correct answer.
This lesson we did a lot of exercises and it was not easy for me because some vocabularies was difficult, I had to guess the meaning to try to understand before I searched the meaning in Dictionary online.

This lesson made me classified the discourse marker in each genre and made me knew more about it.

I hope next week the air conditioning will work and I will not feel hot as the same as this time.

Week 10 : Cause and Effect

We started new lesson. It was about "cause and effect". Because the teacher had to attend the opening ceremony so she assigned us to
read the text and did the exercise. And when we finished we discussed about the answer and wait for the teacher.

When the teacher came back she gave us the corrective feedback and explained about the text.
This lesson we learned about how to analyze the text so that it could help us improve our reading skill.

Week 9 : Comparative and Contrast [Continued]

I came to class about 8.15 am. At first, the teacher checked our name and then started continue the lesson about comparative and contrast. We had homework last week so the teacher let us check the answer with friends. It has two topics, "hurricane" and "men and women language".

The teacher complained us about the homework because some of us didn't do it.

After that we read the texts and searched for the definition.

We did the exercise in our handout and after we finished we had a midterm test.

After I finished the test I thought it was easier than the quiz that I had done.

= For me I agree with Tannen. Because I think men and women use different language. They have their own language to express their idea or feelings.

Are any of Tennen’s point about the differences personalities of men and woman true in your native culture? Explain Do men and women in your native culture use the language the way Tennen claim American men and women do? Give specific examples
= Yes it is. I think that Thai men and women are quite different. They have different ways to show how they feel or think. And I think that some Thai men like challenging to show how he can deal with something.

Week 8 : Procedure [Continue] & Comparative and Contrast

We continued studying the lesson about Procedure. Last week we studied about how to cook, do or make something. But this class we studied how to used the toaster. The teacher told us step by step about how to use the toaster in our handout. Then we did the exercise.

When we finished this lesson, we started new lesson. It was about Comparative and Contrast. This lesson was about comparing two things that similar or different.

We studied and discussed about the differences and the similarities of orange and apple. After that we started to study about " high and low context student".

At last, we did hand out and the teacher answered and explained it. It was quite difficult for me because I didn't know the word to compare. I had to search the meaning from the dictionary online.

Week 7 : Procedure

   I arrived the class about 8.20 am. And when the teacher came to the class, we started to study new lesson. It's about how to do or make something, It called "Procedure".
   At first, the teacher talked about cooking. She asked us that did we cook? and we discussed about this with friends.
For me, I loved to cook so much and loved to eat delicious food.

After we discussed, the teacher assigned us a work to make the video clip about how to cook food. She let us choose one of food that we liked and made a group for two people. Then we watched cooking video "Jamie Oliver" that the teacher opened to be the example about how to cook. The video was about how to cook perfect omelet and showed us the recipe of Risotto.

It was fun for me because I loved cooking.

This lesson was interesting and fun. and it was not quite difficult. It made me pay attention to the lesson. :)

  





After that we did a hand out of lesson 4 and after we finished we had to prepared the table and had a quiz. The quiz was very difficult for me. It made me know that I didn't pay attention enough. When I finished doing quiz, I went outside to wait for my friends and then I went home.

Week 6 : Descriptive

It was a fun day. First, today I had to prepare the equipment so I had to come to the university early in the morning. Second, I finished preparing things around 8.20 am. Actually I wanted to find something to eat before, but I had no time so I didn't eat anything before the class begin.  The teacher always came to class on time at 8.30 am. While we were studying, we made noise so the teacher complained us to stop talking. And we really did it so I wanted to say sorry to the teacher and I will try to pay more attention. The lesson for today was fun for me because I like learning about animals,places or something interesting and this lesson made me fell that.

Third, we talked about Komodo Dragon and answer the exercises and after we finished talking about Komodo Dragon we went to the next topic which was about interesting places in Budapest. And we did the exercises. We also learned about the places in Prague. I remembered that it's about the description of the city of Prague and its uniqueness.

Forth, we read the text that described two persons Bert and Doris and we did the exercises. We had to complete the table to describe Bert and Doris.

At last, we sat in group by 6 people to describe about something that we've chosen in the paper  that the teacher gave to us and we got the topic " Person " so we chose to describe the appearances, clothes and hobby of one of my lovely friend, Suphapan.

It had a lot of vocabularies that I didn't know the meaning today, so I had to use the dictionary and search the internet to find some information. I hope next time would be fun like this time again.

When I was walking to the class I saw that in front of me was the teacher so I ran faster to come to the class in time. This class we started the lesson continue about Secrets by Tim Winton. We discussed about the story and the teacher let us talked about the symbolic with friend in group by four people. I discussed with my friends and I let one of my friends present on front of the class about the symbolic that we've discussed.

After finished the lesson. I was really interested in the new lesson, actually this was a first time that I really pay attention to the lesson. This new lesson was about the descriptive. We discussed about the appearance of the animals.

Truly, I really fun with this lesson and I hope next week we will continue this lesson and I will enjoy learning with it. I will pay more and more attention. At last, for me this class was easy and fun for me, but there was a little problem when I didn't know the word to describe those animals, I had to use the internet and the dictionary online.

On this day, actually I couldn't go to the class because no one was at home so I had to stay at home and I was feeling well on this day.
But I knew that they had to learn about the story " Secrets" by Tim Winton and summerized the details. Then they had to present about the story and talk about the symbolic of this story.
After they finished class, one of my friends told me that they had a homework and told me what to do. So I read the story and tried to analyze and find the symbolic by myself. The story was very long and it made me stay up late. But finally I finished reading.

It was a sleepy day. But this time I didn't come to class late anymore. I came to class around 8.25 am.
This time I was very willing to study this lesson. And the teacher always came to class on time.

At first, the teacher checked list of our name. And then she let us talked about the weekends. So on my weekend, nothing was special I stayed at home, watching movies, listening to music and doing homework.

After finished talking, we continue with the new lesson, so the teacher ordered us to read the new topic silently and answer the question and also sat in a group for four people and discussed about the topic that we've read "There were a woman and a boy". Today I had to present in front of the class about the summary and what I've read and known in this story.

Then we started read the story together again and she gave us the feedback about this story and then we started the new lesson.

The teacher show us the example and let us do some activities. After that, we had to read the first two paragraphs and discussed with friends. And then we finished the class and I knew that on Sunday this week I have to study because it's the make up class.

For me, this lesson still difficult to understand but it had a little bit easy and fun some of the part of the lesson. I will study hard more and more. That's all for today.
